The region consists of the provinces of BiliranEastern Samar,LeyteNorthern SamarSamar and Southern Leyte and the cities of BaybayBoronganCalbayogCatbaloganMaasin,Ormoc and Tacloban. Tacloban City is its regional center. The local climate varies between wet and wetter — the region’s perpetually lush landscapes reveal the absence of a real dry season.

It is composed of three main islands, Samar, Leyte and Biliran. The region has sixprovinces, one independent city and one highly urbanized city  namely, Biliran, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Silangang Samar, Southern Leyte, Ormoc and Tacloban. The highly urbanized city of Tacloban is the Eastern Visayas Regional Center (EVRC). These provinces and cities occupy the easternmost islands of the Visayas group of islands. Eastern Visayas directly faces the Pacific Ocean. The region is known for its famous landmark, the San Juanico Bridge which dubbed as the "Most Beautifully Designed and Longest Bridge in the Philippines". As of 2010, it has a population of 4,101,322 people.
